The White Hall Tavern was a landmark to travelers on Brownsville Road for more than a century. The white framed building was a convenient stopover for stage coaches and also an escape for Pittsburghers escaping the noise of the city. The White Hall Tavern property on Brownsville Road, the current site of the John F. Slater Funeral Home, was originally purchased from the Commonwealth of PA in 1791.
